German Government Presents CO2 Capture Plan
Germany governing cabinet has agreed a carbon management strategy that includes capture, storage and utilization.

The decision means that Germany will change its Carbon Dioxide Storage Law to allow for transport and offshore storage of captured CO2.
The proposed legislation will help Europe’s largest economy deal with unavoidable CO2 emissions.
“CCS [carbon capture an storage] and CCU [carbon capture and usage] need to be possible in Germany; otherwise we can reach our climate goals,” said German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck. “We will allow offshore storage of CO2 with the explicit exception of protected marine areas. In this we will be joining neighbors like Norway and many other countries.”
