The study examined 5300 groups of products. China was the most dominant exporting country, followed by the United States and then Germany.
German exports were particularly prominent in chemicals, machinery, electronics and non-precious metals. German dominance reached 90 percent in certain sorts of fertilizer and painkillers. Germany also accounted for over half of world exports in specific types of microscopes, harvesters, control instruments and cranes.
The study was based on an examination of the United Nations’ databank Comtrade.
“Germany undeniably possesses dominant export positions,” said researchers Jürgen Matthes and Samina Sultan, adding that the trend was toward German exporters specializing in specific areas.
