The company said that the expansion and modernization project aimed to address dramatic anticipated increases in demand for electricity in the coming years, as Germany transitions to sustainable forms of energy.
“Electricity will be the backbone of our entire energy system,” said the director of Hitachi Energy’s European transformer division, Norbert Beatrix, in a statement. "In the global energy system of 2050, we will need to produce four times as much electricity and transfer up to three times as much electrical energy as in 2020. Our factory in Bad Honnef is an example of our engagement, our global presence and our ability to expand quickly to meet the rising demand of Germany’s transition to clean energy.”
Hitachi Energy plans to expand its existing facility up to 15,000 square meters by 2026. The company has been present in Bad Honnef since 1906 and currently maintains nine German locations.
