Project measures:
The Project concerns the improvement of wastewater management in Kericho town and its selected urban centers as well as water supply in the towns of Kisii, Kericho and Kericho selected urban centers including Litein. The purpose of the Project is to contribute to the protection of Lake Victoria from pollution by improving the quality of wastewater discharged into the lake and catchment area. This is to contribute to the sustainable and equitable use of clean water and basic sanitation facilities by the population and to the protection of water resources.
Investment measures shall comprise inter alia
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the sewer network and construction of new sewer connections in Kericho town including works for connections on private grounds, in particular for domestic low income consumers;
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the sewerage treatment plant in Kericho;
- Establishment of a sludge treatment facility in Litein;
- Rehabilitation and expansion of the secondary and tertiary water supply network including construction of new water connections in Kisii town, Kericho town and selected Kericho urban centres;
- Improvement of water supply for Litein;
- Operation & Maintenance Equipment.
Project duration is estimated to four years including one year of Defects Liability Period (DLP).
Brief description of the Contract:
The Project Executing Agency (PEA), the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA), intends to engage an international consultant for the preparation of the detailed design and tender documents, assistance to PEA in tendering process and contracting, construction supervision and management in Kericho, Kisli and Litein, Kenya. Consulting services will also comprise the support of the local water service providers Gusii Water and Sanitation Company Ltd. (GWASCO) and Kericho Water and Sanitation Company Ltd. (KEWASCO) in capacity building towards the sustainable operation and maintenance of related infrastructure
