Perfect location for medical technology: Schwerin Industrial Park
Feb 29, 2024
The success of the Schwerin Industrial Park continued to gather pace in 2023. TecMed has opted for a 7,500 m² existing building in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The founder and investor behind this new company is Willy Michel. Michel, who has already built up one of the largest Swiss medical technology companies with YPSOMED AG, has opted for Schwerin as a location for a second time.
The new sister company TecMed - with Managing Director Patrick Schär - is planning to produce an insulin patch pump that works automatically and thus improves patients' quality of life. Self-fillable, empty reservoirs for a highly precise and easy-to-use insulin pump will be produced on two modern, highly automated high-volume production systems. This is also a digital product with a smart app-based solution. The aim is to establish a small-volume line between 2023 and 2025. This project requires investments of more than € 100 million. In March 2024, 14 employees should already be employed on site, with the long-term aim of increasing this to 140 employees over the next 5-6 years. The hall for the installation of the new production facilities has already been prepared, while production of the first components is planned for 2025.
What makes the Schwerin Industrial Park so attractive is the continuous improvement of site conditions. A direct freeway access to the A14 is currently being planned in order to optimize the connection to the regional and national transport network. In addition, a rail stop is being built to the north of the park to strengthen local public transport. The park uses green electricity from renewable sources and at the same time offers free space for future interested parties, who can benefit from the attractive location just an hour away from Hamburg.
