Finalists from 14 countries gathered in Malta to learn who would receive the prestigious awards.
Fiorenzo Dioni and Richard Oberle took top honors in the category “Industry” for their “Giga Press,” a high-precision die-casting machine that helps to reduce the waste, energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with automotive manufacturing. It has the potential to transform electric-vehicle production.
Cordelia Schmid was honored in the category “Research” for developing technology that enables artificial intelligence to understand the context of visual scenes, interpret human actions and even predict future events within videos. That opens up new possibilities for human-computer interaction across a variety of commercial and research sectors.
The 2025 edition of the EPO’s European Inventor Award will take place in Iceland.
