A survey carried out by German think-tank Prognos and business newspaper Handelsblatt identified three AI strengths within Europe’s largest economy.
- Practical application of large-scale AI models to the needs of companies
- Integration of AI-based processes into existing ones in sectors in which Germany is a world leader
- Foundational research at universities and institutes.
Moreover, Germany’s start-up scene is valued by international investors for creating B2B companies.
“Germany has a strong history of industry and production that offers a pool of potential cooperation between companies and start-ups,” Accel investor Philippe Botteri told Handelsblatt. The newspaper named translation service DeepL, security start-up Helsing and chatbot providers Cognigy and Parloa as examples.
In the terms of research, start-ups, companies and institutes, the two clear AI hubs in Germany are Berlin and Munich. Further concentrations are Düsseldorf/Leverkusen/Cologne in the west and Nuremberg Erlangen in Bavaria.
