In a survey carried out by the country's digital industry association Bitkom, 57 percent of respondents signaled an interest in AI, while 20 percent said that they already employed the technology.
78 percent considered AI an opportunity for businesses – up from 68 percent only one year ago. 37 percent of firms indicated that they were planning or discussing using the technology – up from 28 percent.
That interest is reflected in the population at large. 40 percent of Germans say that they have used ChatGPT or other AI applications. Germans consider the technology most useful in the areas of cyber-security (80 percent), traffic and mobility (78 percent each), health (75 percent) and sustainability (67 percent).
“There is great openness toward and great expectations of AI in both business and the general population,” said Bitkom President Ralf Wintergeist. “AI is reshuffling the deck in a lot of areas. For Germany that means that we don’t just want to play. We want to win.”
