The approval is good news for Lilly, the world’s most valuable pharmaceutical company, after it announced a massive EUR 2.3 billion expansion of its German facilities in the town of Alzey in late 2023.
Mounjaro earned Lilly almost USD 3 million in the first nine months of 2023, and analysts say the market for the medication could reach EUR 20 billion. Some think world turnover for weight-loss drugs may hit USD 100 billion in the years to come.
Germany’s Robert Koch Institute says that more than half of all adults in the country are currently overweight, mirroring a global trend.
