Who We Are

Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) is the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. With two locations in Germany, 60 offices abroad and its network of partners throughout the world, GTAI supports German companies setting up in foreign markets, promotes Germany as a business location and assists foreign companies setting up in Germany.

GTAI has 412 employees, of which 325 are located in Germany and 87 abroad. The workforce includes limited company employees, assigned officials and salaried staff of the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA), as well as foreign workers employed through the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Abroad.

Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) was established in 2009 as part of a merger between "Invest in Germany GmbH" and the "German Office for Foreign Trade" (BfAI). The Federal Republic of Germany is the sole shareholder and is represented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The Supervisory Board is chaired by Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and is composed of public and private sector representatives.

GTAI is supported in its activities by the Foreign Trade Advisory Board and the Investment Promotion Advisory Board.

Trade associations, Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Chambers of Skilled Crafts are particularly active on the Foreign Trade Advisory Board. Cooperation with the economic development agencies of the individual federal states is at the forefront of the activities of the Investment Promotion Advisory Board.
