The project involved both a major expansion and a modernization of Cargill’s site in Germany, which has existed for more than 60 years. The initiative expands the company’s product portfolio to include wheat proteins and special starches used in food, technical industry and the production of bio-plastics.
The modernization work will make the facilities near the Rheinhafen port more energy efficient by introducing combined heat and power. Work on the project commenced in 2016.
“This is an investment for the next 70 to 100 years here in Krefeld,” said Cargill Vice-President David Webster at the inauguration ceremony.
