German biotech firms raked in EUR 1.92 billion in financing last year – a new record for non-corona years and more than double what they did in 2019.
That’s according to figures from industry association Bio Deutschland and consultants Ernst&Young.
“It’s great that the financing of the biotechnology sector in Germany recovered so well in 2024,” Bio Deutschland chairman Oliver Schacht told business newspaper Handelsblatt.
Once focus was on companies involved in cancer treatment, which raised EUR 898 million in venture capital – an annual increase of 68 percent. The three largest financing rounds of 2024 in the sector were booked by companies in this area.
