Consulting Services/Implementation Consultant, Rehabilitation of Hydropower Plants

Brief description of the Contract:

The Project concerns the rehabilitation of the hydropower plants at Aswan High Dam, Aswan I and Aswan II. The main area of the rehabilitation shall be the replacement of power transformers which have already reached the end of their lifetime
as well as replacement of thrust bearing cooling system at Aswan II. 

The aim of the Project is to carry out necessary rehabilitation measures on all three hydropower plants in order to assure the sustainable provision of hydropower as a contribution to a liable, climate friendly and cost-efficient electricity supply. By doing so, the Project will contribute to the goals of Egypt’s Renewable Energy Strategy and Action Plan as defined in the Energy Strategy to 2035 as well as to the global goal of mitigating CO2 emissions and climate change.

Requested Consulting Services:

• Expert assistance to HPGC in project management and contract management;
• Review and approval of equipment design, this may also include construction design of minor constructive adaptation works for the new equipment;
• Factory inspection and testing of new equipment;
• Supervision of equipment installation, possibly to a minor extent of construction works related to the installation of the equipment;
• Expert assistance in testing and commissioning;
• Manage Environmental, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS) impacts and risks according to national regulations and requirements of KfW, monitoring of implementation of an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP);
• Expert assistance to HPGC for fulfilling their reporting duties (e.g. on project progress, social and environmental issues etc.) to the financing institutions
