Roche Starts Work on EUR 600 Million German Diagnostics Center
Construction is underway on the Swiss pharmaceuticals giant’s massive expansion project in the Bavarian town of Penzburg.

The company says the new facility will be the “modern diagnostics production center in Europe.”
It will produce around 450 different input materials for diagnostic tests in infectiology, neurology, cardiology, oncology and diabetes.
Among the VIPs in attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony was German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“Roche's investments here in Penzberg and at the other German sites are an important signal for the modernization and attractiveness of Germany as a pharmaceutical and industrial location,” Scholz said. “Pharma, biotech and pharmaceutical diagnostics are of great importance for healthcare in Germany. At the same time, this is good for value creation and employment and demonstrates our high innovative strength.”
The center is scheduled to go operational in 2028. Roche already invested some EUR three billion in its German sites from 2019 to 2023.
