The firm has chosen Frankfurt and Berlin as the locations for two data centers each. The Frankfurt facilities will take up 7.3 hectares and have a capacity of 63 megawatts. Their Berlin counterparts will cover 3.8 hectares and possess a capacity of 54 megawatts.
The project will more than double Colt DCS’s capacity in Germany and will cost some EUR 2 billion.
The heat generated by the centers will be used for district heating in the two areas involved.
“Our acquisitions in Frankfurt and Berlin are evidence of our commitment to Europe’s biggest economy,” said Colt DCS CEO Niclas Sanfridsson in a statement. “These new locations will not only increase our capacities. They also underscore our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the data-center sector.”
The company currently operates or is planning more than twenty data centers in the UK, the EU and the APAC region.
