As the study points out, with 2000 data centers and a capacity of over 2700 megawatts, German has the largest digital infrastructure in Europe. Capacity has doubled since 2010 and looks set to increase by 78 percent in the years to come.
The largest hubs are the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main region, Berlin and Brandenburg, and the Cologne-Düsseldorf area.
Forecast growth in data center capacity in Germany is greater than in China and Europe as a whole.
But the report also states that, globally, the energy efficiency of data centers is stagnating, indicating potential market opportunities for solutions. The report also recommends that future data centers be located in regions that produce lots of renewable electricity.
